The benefits of fluoride for the teeth have been known to humans and dental professionals for some time. The idea has been so accepted that 43 of the 50 largest cities add fluoride to their drinking water for the benefit of the population. One of the biggest benefits of a fluoride rinse or gel is that it delivers an extra layer of fluoride protection to the teeth. Fluoride is known to prevent tooth decay and enhance the health of teeth. By adding another dose of fluoride, a person lessens the risk of tooth decay.

Not everyone needs to use a fluoride rinse though. Those that need it the most are individuals who take a medication that causes dry mouth or who have the condition naturally, those who have braces, and those who have already had their gums recede a little bit.
