Many people have lost teeth through a variety of means and
so now are embarrassed about their smile’s appearance. Fortunately, there are a
number of restorative processes available to ensure that a person’s smile
regains its prior appearance and ceases to be an embarrassment.
The most effective and longest lasting of the restorative
procedures is the dental implant. This procedure is seen as both an implant
therapy and a restorative, cosmetic therapy because of how it works.
In implants, a person has a post screwed into his or her jaw
bone. Once this is done, the post is capped off so that it won’t hurt the rest
of the mouth and given a few months to fuse with the jaw bone. By letting the
post fuse with the jaw, the dental implant process offers a level of strength
and stability not found in other restorative procedures.
Once the post is in place, a crown is added to the top to
give the person a natural looking tooth. The crown is made of a durable
material and is placed in a way that allows the gum line to attach to the
tooth. This gives the tooth a more natural appearance.
The dental implant procedure, while more complex than
dentures or bridges, gives a person a much stronger bite and allows them a much
more natural looking smile. It is a strong process and the person doesn’t have
to worry about his or her dentures coming unstuck.
